Is your constipation the result of a tight pelvic floor?

Constipated...? It could be your pelvic floor.

We only hear about the weak pelvic floors, never the tight, but a tight pelvic floor is just as common.

Here are some signs that tightness might be a factor for you...

🛑You hold a lot of tension in your body - often most obviously in neck and shoulders.

🛑You have a dance background.

🛑You spend your life trying to pull your stomach in.

🛑You have a job where you cant get to a loo regularly - think doctors and nurses on shifts.

🛑You suffer with IBS

🛑You have had some trauma to the pelvic muscles (often in childbirth)

🛑You are regularly constipated

🛑You experience pelvic pain or difficult intercourse

🛑You wee when you cough, laugh or sneeze

And if you struggle to "feel" any pelvic floor connection, it could be because it's already lifted, engaged and tight. So the usual methods of strengthening aren't going to work.

To release it, try the following

👉Sit into "child's pose" and take 10 deep breaths each day, feeling the pelvis broadening (most birthing positions work for this)

👉Go to the loo regularly, try not to hold it, and take your time, allow the muscles to relax.

👉Work on pelvic, hip and lower back mobility to release tension in surrounding joints.

👉Aim for a whole food diet rich in fibre

👉See a women's health physio for full diagnosis and massage pointers

And of course, DM me with any questions. We cover pelvic floor function, engagement, release and control in my Mind-Body-Meno Plan and the results are exceptional.

You do not need to live with pelvic pain, weakness or incontinence!
