Why A Neutral Pelvis Is Worth It

back pain core joint health midlife neutral pelvic pilates Mar 08, 2024

Neutral pelvis is a cue that can be baffling if you are new to the Pilates method, but it can make a huge difference to your results, and will benefit you in a selection of ways...

SPINE - a neutrally positioned pelvis supports the health of the spine by distributing forces evenly and minimises points of stress.

CORE - A neutral pelvis creates optimal engagement of the whole core including the deep abdominal muscles, the transversus abdominis and allows simpler connection to the pelvic floor.

JOINT STABILITY - Maintaining a neutral pelvis helps stabilise the hip joints, allowing for better control and range of motion allowing for safe strengthening and mobilising.

BALANCE - Neutral prevents overuse of certain muscle groups and promotes a more even distribution of effort throughout the body - taking you away from old habitual movement patterns and towards balanced, healthy movement.

BREATHING - a neutral pelvis creates a spinal position that allows the diaphragm to move more freely.

There are many instances where we choose not to be in neutral, but it's important to get to a point where this positioning is a "choice" not accidental, meaning better control, better body awareness and a more effective workout!

In my membership The MindBody Academy, all the workouts have a strong emphasis on safe positioning so that you get rehab, strengthening, mobility and control all in one class! Bang for your buck!
